Brookside Barrio announces expansion to Red Bridge Shopping Center

Brookside Barrio’s second location set to open in spring of 2019

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Oct. 12, 2018) – Brookside Barrio, a Mexican Kitchen & Bar, announces plans to expand to the Red Bridge Shopping Center as one of the key corner restaurant locations anchoring the center. The second location will occupy 5,000 square feet with a 2,000 square foot patio. Brookside Barrio is expected to open in the spring of 2019 as part of the extensive redevelopment of the 150,000 square foot community retail and lifestyle center.

The original Brookside Barrio, located at 6227 Brookside Plaza, opened in February of 2018. Originally a neighborhood gas station, a complete transformation of the space made for an inviting and playfully edgy Mexican restaurant that has already harbored much success in its first year of operations.

Led by owners Chris Ridler and Luke Pickett, Brookside Barrio serves classic Mexican dishes and specialty tacos seven days a week. Brookside Barrio is also a gathering place with its extended happy hour, extensive tequila list and variety of specialty margaritas.

“I am excited we revitalized Red Bridge Shopping Center, so families of all ages can enjoy it again. Brookside Barrio is yet another cool, local restaurant that will contribute to the Red Bridge momentum!”, said local Council Member Scott Taylor.

Red Bridge Shopping Center is currently undergoing redevelopment, led by LANE4 Property Group. “Brookside Barrio is exactly the kind of restaurant that we hoped to attract to Red Bridge when we started this redevelopment two years ago: a local operator with an innovative and successful concept. This is the kind of restaurant that will become a fixture for South Kansas City”, said Brandon Buckley, Vice President of LANE4 Property Group.

Red Bridge Shopping Center is currently 94% percent leased, including tenants like Blue Moose Bar and Grill, Blue Bicycle Fitness Center and Crows Coffee. The center will also soon be home to Wonderscope Children’s Museum, a 30,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art interactive museum designed to spark a lifelong love of learning through the power of play. Additionally, Mid Continent Public library recently announced plans to move their Red Bridge branch to another location within the center, adding more than 2,300 square feet and additional community resources to the facility.

Sheryl Vickers with Select Sites LLC serves as the broker for this project.
