START Advisory Board votes to not change Star Valley commuter route times

(Jackson, Wyo.) - At the START Advisory Board meeting yesterday, board members voted to not make changes to the Star Valley commuter bus schedule. Currently, the Star Valley commuter bus travels Monday through Friday from Star Valley to Jackson at 5:35 a.m., 6:35 a.m. and 6:50 a.m., and from Jackson to Star Valley at 12:40 p.m., 4:50 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. After studies showed that the 12:40 p.m. bus averaged two people per ride, Transit Director Darren Brugmann recommended to the board that they change the time to 4:20 p.m. He recommended that this change be made at the beginning of the winter bus schedule. "The last two busses are much more utilized. The 12:40 p.m. time has a small ridership," said Brugmann. "The main purpose is to be more cost efficient with our resources." After members of the advisory board discussed the logistics of changing the time, Brugmann opened the issue up to public comment. One man, who identified himself as a daily commuter on the 12:40 p.m. Star Valley bus, stated, “I am concerned about the people who work half days. Those people would stop riding entirely [if the time changed]. We have a ridership of half dozen on Fridays.” Another woman stood up and said, "It is nice to have the 12:40 p.m. bus as an option.” Ultimately, the START Advisory Board recommended that a policy be put in place with more time before public comment before making a change to the schedule. A board member made a motion to keep the star valley commuter hours as they are now, with further investigation in the future, and the motion passed 6 - 1.
