Not everyone agrees with Mead's Syrian refugee stance

Yesterday, Gov. Matt Mead joined more than half of the country's governors in taking a stand against the Obama Administration's willingness to let in Syrian refugees. But not everyone around the state agrees with the stance. “No state should have to endure the threat of terrorists entering our borders,” Governor Mead said today. “The President needs to make certain an absolutely thorough vetting system is in place that will not allow terrorists from Syria or any other part of the world into our country. In light of the horrific terrorist attacks in Paris, I have joined other governors in demanding the refugee process be halted until it is guaranteed to provide the security demanded by Wyoming and United States citizens." President Barack Obama announced in September that he would allow 10,000 refugees in the next year into the U.S., but many states are fighting back. Part of the pushback comes from the recent revelation that one of the Paris attackers is believed to have been among the wave of recent refugees arriving in Europe. Wyoming's minority party, Democrats, disagree with Mead's stance and argue that his response feeds into the terrorists' desires. Out of Wyoming's 90 legislators, 13 are Democrats. "The United States of America has always been the beacon of hope and freedom to the world. We are a nation that leads and helps those in need," Wyoming Democratic Executive Director Aime Van Cleave wrote this morning. "Terrorism is about instilling fear in our communities, so much fear that it changes who we are at our core. We cannot let terrorists overpower our love and compassion for our brothers and sisters fleeing violence across the world. We will not let them change who we are. "Wyoming Democrats trust the men and women of our Homeland Security, the state department, and our military, who put their lives on the line to keep our families safe every day. "America’s refugee screening process is unique and the most rigorous and comprehensive in the world. Governor Matt Mead should know that and should know Wyoming can do better." #buckrail #reboot #county10 #oilcity #dally #county17 #shortgo
