START Bus revamps Town Shuttle service

Southern Teton Area Rapid Transit (START) will implement changes to greatly improve connectivity and efficiency of the free Town Shuttle with its new winter schedule. An additional Town Shuttle route and expanded weekend hours will fill in the gaps of the current system to provide enhanced transit service for the community. The free Town Shuttle which operates daily bus service every 30 minutes between east and west Jackson serving most downtown businesses now offers a more direct route across town with the addition of a second line starting Friday, November 27, 2015. The stops will remain the same, but the new “Town Shuttle B” will provide direct connections between east Jackson and the Albertsons and Kmart area. The current Town Shuttle route will continue as “Town Shuttle A” to include the Town Square, High School Road and Cottonwood Park service, while “Town Shuttle B” enhances the service provided by the “Town Shuttle A” and increases the efficiency of cross-town movement. Based on the success of the free late night shuttle provided last New Year’s eve, START will expand the Town Shuttle schedule on Friday and Saturday nights startingDecember 11th. The free “Late Night Shuttle” will transport riders from the downtown area to the residentially dense areas of east, south and west Jackson connecting riders with their jobs and homes on the weekends. Operating in only one direction, the “Late Night Shuttle” departs the Town Square at 10:45 p.m., 11:15 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. “These are the first steps in meeting our community priorities specific to the Integrated Transportation Plan,” Transit Director Darren Brugmann said. “Venturing into the late-night service expands the Town Shuttle schedule beyond what it has been running for years, while the direct “Town Shuttle B” more effectively connects residents with their jobs, the library and recreation opportunities at Snow King.” Teton Village service will remain unchanged with numerous trips connecting Jackson and Teton Village every day. To encourage multimodal transportation in Jackson Hole, service to and from Teton Village will be free to everyone for the first week – Friday, November 27, through Friday, December 4. There will be no changes to the commuter routes from Star Valley, Wyo. and Teton County, Idaho; except as in past years, there will be adjusted morning departures from Star Valley and Teton Valley to accommodate winter weather and road conditions.
