Grand Targhee Resort kicks off 47th ski season tomorrow

(Alta, Wyo.) - Grand Targhee Resort will open for the 2015/16 season tomorrow, November 20. There are 47 inches of snow to date and the resort is gearing up for a busy opening day. Kicking off the 2015/16 season and continuing the tradition, Grand Targhee Resort will host their annual food drive, benefitting the Teton Valley Food Pantry. Guests who bring two non-perishable food items will receive $10 off the purchase their all-day lift ticket. Grand Targhee Resort has started off the last five seasons with this annual food drive. For opening weekend, The Trap Bar & Grill will be featuring live music by the Miller Sisters and Rock Creek. The Grand Targhee Resort Shuttle starts running tomorrow, November 20. This year a new stop at Powder Valley off Ski Hill Road has been added to the schedule. This year, the resort is adding two new snowcats to its existing fleet: one replacement snowcat and one new snowcat, increasing the fleet to eight. “The addition of these machines will allow the resort to groom more acreage during high pressure spells and increase the productivity of the current fleet,” stated Rick Swanker, Director of Mountain Operations. Other improvements include an upgraded heat tracing system in the outdoor saltwater pool and hot tub, and new picnic tables in the plaza, providing additional seating and ample gathering space around the fire pits. Opening day traditions for Grand Targhee guests include lining up at the base of Dreamcatcher in the early morning hours. Some even come prepared to cook breakfast while waiting in line. This year the resort is hosting a photo contest. Guests are encouraged to submit their opening weekend photos, Friday through Sunday, using #GTROpening1516. The winner of the contest will receive a two night stay and ski package for two people. *Feature Photo: Grand Targhee Resort opening day 2014. h/t Grand Targhee Resort / Pitchengine Communities.* #buckrail #news
