TCSD announces location of new elementary school

(Jackson, Wyo.) - Last night, the Teton County School District Board of Trustees announced the location of the new elementary school and today, the school district released additional details on the location. According to the release issued a few hours ago, a 20 acre parcel immediately south of the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) building has been purchased as the site of a new elementary school scheduled to open in the fall of 2018. "We are excited to be taking the next steps towards constructing a new elementary school to serve Teton County students," said Chairman Patricia Russell about the purchase. "We have looked at the routes and interestingly, a majority of K-5 students that live in the southern portion of the county live south of Rafter J and are much closer to Hog Island than Jackson Elementary," Russell added. "In fact, transportation to a school in the Hog Island area will reduce bus route times, carbon emissions and school generated traffic in the Town of Jackson and on the very busy High School Road." Based on the current schedule, construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2017, with the new school opening in the fall of 2018. The school district also noted that they are aware of plans to widen the highway and are coordinating their plans with WYDOT to synchronize the projects. *Feature Photo: The land south of the WYDOT building / Pitchengine Communities * #buckrail #news
