Jackson Fire Union sends Christmas cheer to burn victim

(Jackson, Wyo.) - Jackson Hole Professional Firefighters responded to a Christmas request from a special 8-year-old girl from New York. Sa’fyre Terry of Schenectady, New York lost her family two years ago in a structure fire. For Christmas this year, Sa’fyre asked to receive enough Christmas cards to fill the Christmas tree decoration that her aunt bought for her. Her wish was to receive Christmas cards from all over the world. “Hearing about this beautiful, young girl who lost her family due to this tragic accident inspired all of us to do something,” says John Tobey, Jackson Fire Union President. “As firefighters, this one hit close to home, and was an overwhelming emotional response to do something.” The 8-year-old girl was rescued but suffered burns to her face and the loss of her hand and foot. Fire Police reported that an arsonist intentionally set the 2013 New York blaze. Jackson Hole Professional Firefighters sent a Christmas card along with a picture of the on-duty crew wishing Sa’fyre a Merry Christmas. Additionally, the group will be making a donation on Sa’fyre’s behalf to the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) Burn Camp. The annual IAFF Burn Camp brings together burn survivors ages 13-15 and firefighters from around the world to let them know they are not alone in their experiences. The camp takes place annually in Washington DC and features tours of national monuments and museums as well as time spent interacting with local DC firefighters. “We encourage the Jackson community to join us in wishing this little girl a Merry Christmas,” says Tobey. “We have included information on sending her cards on our website jhfirefighters.org. The Jackson Hole Professional Firefighters is a local labor union representing the full-time firefighting and emergency service personnel in our community. The organization negotiates annual labor agreements, advocates for public safety and participates in a number of charitable service organizations. *Feature Photo: h/t Jackson Fire Union / Pitchengine Communities* #buckrail #news
