Town Council considers moving downtown tour bus loading zone

(Jackson, Wyo.) - At last week's Town of Jackson Council meeting, officials discussed moving the tour bus loading and unloading zone, which is currently located in front of Pearl Street Market near the corner of Pearl and Cache Streets. According to town documents, "At the October 5, 2015 evening meeting, Mike Reid, on behalf of the Pearl Street Market, made public comment requesting that the commercial tour bus loading and unloading zone be removed from Pearl Street as the zone is directly in front of the market. Pearl Street Market is concerned that the commercial tour bus loading and unloading zone is negatively impacting its business due to associated high and intense use of its restroom facilities and related inventory issues." Following the October 5 meeting, town staff researched alternative locations for the tour busses, and came up with the following options: 1. Deny the request to remove the commercial tour bus loading and unloading zone on Pearl Street thereby leaving the zone as is. 2. Approve the request and direct staff to install a temporary loading and unloading zone on North King Street in the spring of 2016. 3. Direct staff to convert one or two of the oversized vehicle parking spaces in the Home Ranch parking lot to a commercial tour bus loading and unloading zone. 4. Approve the request but take no further action thereby reducing the total number of commercial vehicles. Officials agreed that a new tour bus loading area would be ideal on either King Street or in the Home Ranch parking lot on Gill Street. Town documents state that "The fiscal impact of installing a temporary North King Street commercial tour bus loading and unloading zone is estimated to be $29,000, which includes installing new subgrade, curb/drainage, and asphalt. The fence on North King Street will also have to be relocated to the property line. The fiscal impact to designate a tour bus loading and unloading zone at Home Ranch is estimated to be $3,500 which includes new signs and pavement markings." Council chose to continue the conversation until the nearby business owners could be contacted. *Feature Photo: Option #2 for tour bus loading and unloading. h/t Town of Jackson / Pitchengine Communities.* #buckrail #news
