Local Officials Reveal Their New Year's Resolutions

(Jackson, Wyo.) - New Year's resolutions are a great way to get motivated to make a positive change in the New Year. Not sure what your New Year's resolution should be? Get an idea from these Town of Jackson and Teton County officials: *Mayor Sara Flitner* "In the new year, I want to laugh and make people laugh in every conversation. I am going to try to avoid my 'weapons of mass distraction' (email, iPhone, etc.) for the first 30 minutes of every day. I am going to spend the free time I have with positive people who make me laugh and think. "I am going to continue the only New Year’s resolution I have ever kept forever, which is eating dark chocolate every morning while I wait for the coffee to finish brewing. Yep." *Teton County Board of County Commissioners Chairwoman Barbara Allen* "More time spent fishing." *Jackson Police Department Chief Todd Smith* "Professionally I am hoping to work on becoming a better listener. Personally I am hoping to spend more time with my grandson Tayvian and granddaughter Tynlee." *Teton County Commissioner Natalia Macher* "I’d have to say that my focus for 2016 is Work Hard and Play Hard!" *Teton County Commissioner Mark Newcomb* "I resolve to maintain an open mind and balanced view and to not stop governing to the best of my ability." *Kathy Clay, Battalion Chief Fire Marshal for Jackson Hole Fire/EMS* *Personal* To come home after work and be as nice and loving to my husband as I am to my dogs! To write handwritten notes often To spend more time being thankful and less time being stressed out *Professional* To continue to get the word out to anyone who will listen about the dangers of carbon monoxide and malfunctioning smoke alarms To remain committed and steadfast to car seat program To be thankful every day for the privilege of being Teton County’s Fire Marshal *Lori Iverson, Outreach and Visitor Services for the National Elk Refuge.* "In the words of Milton Berle, 'If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door.'" *Mary Cernicek, Public Affairs Officer for the Bridger-Teton National Forest* "To remember to keep learning from my mistakes, but never regret making them.- I read somewhere that to fail was really just my First Attempt In Learning. That really resonated with me! That is the example I want to be to my daughter, my colleagues, and my friends. "To practice mercy.- Isn't Pope Francis inspiring? He has called this year the year of mercy. What a great resolution to help me be my best self. "To learn German. - I have played around with it for years, picking up a phrase here or there or learning a few new words. This year I want to expand my ability to and really study the language. It is never to late and learning languages keeps your mind sharp and your world broad. "To get outdoors- I get out. I vacation. I play. But this year, I am going to make a real effort to be out even more and to take in this amazing National Forest - there are still places I haven't explored yet and I am going to check them off my list. My own backyard is fabulous. What am I waiting for?" What is your New Year's Resolution?
