10 new things to try in Jackson Hole in 2016

(Jackson, Wyo.) - There is so much to do here in Jackson Hole, it is sometimes overwhelming to decide what to do on your time off -- so why not try something new? We have compiled a list of 10 new things to try in Jackson Hole in 2016. Many of you have likely tried at least one of these already, but make it your goal to knock out the whole list before the end of the year. *1. Try Climbing:* You don't have scale the Grand to do some climbing in Jackson Hole. Start small by testing your skills at Phil Baux Park, then work your way up to bigger climbs. *2. Learn More About the History of Jackson Hole:* Visit the Jackson Hole Historical Society and Museum or walk through the historic Miller House on the National Elk Refuge . Visit the picturesque Mormon Row or even take some time to look at the photos on the wall of The Wort Hotel. There is history EVERYWHERE in this town and it is fascinating. *3. Cross Country or Nordic Ski:* Many people in Jackson Hole are downhill skiers, with fewer trying the sports of Cross County or Nordic skiing. Take a full day lesson or just rent the equipment and get out there. You may discover your new favorite hobby or just meet a few new friends. *4. Go to the Summer Rodeo:* You would be surprised at how many people I meet that have lived here for years and not been to the Jackson Hole Rodeo in the summer. Whether you are into the rodeo scene or not, this is something you should check out. And BONUS: The beer there is cheap! *5. Try a Local Ropes Course: *This year, strap on a harness and brave the heights! There is a course up at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort that is open during the summer and then there is the new Treetop Adventure Course at Snow King Mountain, which will be open this winter. *6. Make a Meal with Only Food from Local Farms: *Head to the Jackson Hole Farmer's Market or the People's Market this summer with one question in your mind -- what can you make from the local veggies, meat, cheese and other items sold? See what local delicacy you can create with while supporting our local producers. *7. Be a Tourist in Yellowstone:* We know, we know, this is what you avoid all summer long. Plan a day -- either very early in the morning or early in the season -- to check out the tourist sites of Yellowstone like Old Faithful, Grand Prismatic Spring and the Boiling River. After all, it is the 100th Anniversary of our National Parks! *8. Go Rafting on the Snake:* This is a wet and exciting thing to do on a hot summer day with a group of friends or contact a rafting company and see if they will give you the remaining spots on a raft at a discount. *9. Snap a Photo Under the Elk Arches:* Do you have a great photo of yourself under the elk arches? If not, it's about time to snap one either alone, with your significant other, your kids, your dog or a great friend. *10. Soak in a Hot Spring:* Sometime this summer or winter, head south to Granite Hot Springs for a soak. You can drive out to the springs in the summer or take a snowmobile ride out to it in the winter.
