(Jackson, Wyo.) - Here is what's happening around the county: *Safety Events at JHMR: *Join Teton County Search and Rescue and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in honor of Safety Month at the top of the Bridger Gondola. On January 16th, our 'Safety Posse' will be on the hill handing out goodies and prizes to skiers/riders practicing safety on the slopes. *Free Cross Country Ski Tips:* On Saturday, January 16 at 10 a.m. at the Stilson Lot, join experienced and enthusiastic Nordic Instructors and improve your kick and glide or skate stride. Look for them in red JHMR uniforms either on the Nordic track or in the Transit building. *Health Insurance Marketplace Assistance:* On Saturday, January 16 starting at 10 a.m. at the Teton County Library, the library offers 45-minute, one-on-one sessions with a certified navigator for community members wishing to make changes to their federal health insurance marketplace application or start a new application following qualifying life events. Registration required. Sign up at the Library Front Desk or call 733-2164, press 1. *5th Annual Adaptive Demonstration Booth:* Everyone knows someone who lives with a disability. Come learn about the winter sports opportunities available for people of all ages and abilities at the 5th Annual Adaptive Awareness Day, a free event hosted by Jackson Hole Mountain Sports School's Adaptive Sports Program and Teton Adaptive Sports. Experience adaptive ski options then help spread the word of the possibilities available to adaptive athletes. Participants of all ages and abilities are welcome to try sit-skiing, 3 tracking, blind skiing, and a ski bike. Participation includes complementary access to the Teewinot lift. 11am-3pm at the base of the Teewinot Lift. *Powder 8's Local's Qualifier:* Today is the local qualifier for the Powder 8's. JHMR is bringing back the historic competition to the Powder 8 face of Cody Bowl, for the Grand Reunion Weekend. The nationally recognized event, which ran from 1975 until 2001, will be an invitational team contest with over $10,000 in cash and prizes. *National Elk Refuge Birding Excursion:* A Refuge winter naturalist will
lead a birding excursion onto the National Elk Refuge. They will have
binoculars and field guides to share, but guests are encouraged to bring
their own supplies if available. Participants should be appropriately
dressed for the outing, which will include frequent stops in and out of the
vehicle. The trip will include travel into areas of the Refuge generally
closed to the public. Reservations are required and can be made by calling
the naturalist reservation line at (307) 201-5406. The event is free and
goes from 1 - 4 p.m. on Saturday.
*Raptor Encounters:* Today at 2 p.m., this hour-long educational experience
with live birds of prey includes opportunities to meet many of TRC’s
resident raptors and visit the rehabilitation clinic. Space is limited and
reservations are required.
*Chanman solo at the K Bar:* On Saturday, January 16 from 4 - 6 p.m.,
Chanman will play apres' ski at the K Bar in Teton Mountain Lodge. Songs
from Chanman's new CD "Chanman solo," ski bum originals and standards. The
live music is free and open to all.
*Ranger-Led Snowshoe Hike:* On Saturday starting at 1:30 p.m., join a
ranger for an educational and fun hike through the snow. Rangers offer
guided snowshoe hikes from the Taggart Lake Trailhead. Programs begin on
December 26 and run through mid-March, 2015, conditions permitting.
Reservations are required, call 307-739-3399 for more details and to make
reservations. Please wear appropriate winter clothing (e.g. hat, gloves,
snow/wind pants, boots, etc.) and don't forget your sunscreen and
sunglasses. Snowshoes are available from the Grand Teton Association for a
suggested donation of $5. Hikes last two hours, ending at 3:30 p.m.
*Teton Valley Winter Farmer's Market:* MD Nursery is once again running
their Winter Farmer's Market. The market is held every Saturday until March
12 in Driggs, Idaho.
*Teton Adaptive Sports Après Soirée:* This annual family friendly event is
not only fun, but raises money that benefits our programs for adaptive
athletes via ticket and raffle sales and our fabulous silent auction. We'll
have free food, a cash bar, and music by the wonderful Canyon Kids. More
