JacksonHoleLive! awards two music scholarships to local teens

(Jackson, Wyo.) - JacksonHoleLive! has announced the winners of its first annual scholarship program. The $3,000 cash scholarship winner for 2015 is Aspen Jacquet of Wilson and the runner-up $1,000 winner is Gavin Speakman of Star Valley. The new JacksonHoleLive! scholarship program, launched this past fall, offers a $3000 cash award to one grand prize winner and $1000 cash award to one runner-up winner, chosen by a five member committee comprised of Steve Poole (Chair), Pete Closson, Sue Bybee, Michelle McCormick and Mac Munro. Aspen Jacquet is a 17-year-old guitarist and singer-songwriter from Wilson. Aspen won the 2010 Women of Jackson Music Scholarship; she won 3rd, 2nd, 1st, and overall Grand Champion at the Teton County Fair Rita Case Memorial Talent Show 7 years in a row. She won the Cathedral Voices Sing Off two years in a row, was the First Place Winner of Environmental Health Trust Annual Safe Technology Art Contest, and was invited to sing her original songs at the Intertribal Winter Sports Summit and at TEDXJACKSON, both at the Center for the Arts. She plans to record her first EP this year and wants to pursue a career in music. Gavin Speakman is a 17-year-old trombone player from Thayne. The Star Valley High School student has many music accolades including participating in the Wyoming All-State Marching Band, Wyoming All-State Concert Band, Wyoming All-State Orchestra Brass section, Wyoming All-State Jazz Band, Carnegie Hall Honors Performance Series, University of Montana High School Honor Ensembles, and All-Northwest Band. Gavin is a Jackson Hole Community Band member and has received five Varsity Letters in music. Gavin wants to play professionally in a major symphony orchestra. JacksonHoleLive! seeded this scholarship fund with $500 and accepted $500 challenges from community members. Supporting community members include Scott Anderson, Chip Marvin, Greg Miles & Melinda Binks, Jeff & Amy Golightly, Rachel Ravitz, the Boathouse Foundation and one anonymous contributor.
