JHHS Speech and Debate Team continues undefeated season with 5th win

(Jackson, Wyo.) - The Jackson Hole High School Speech and Debate Team found success last weekend at the Evanston Invitational, held at Evanston High School. This win continues the team's undefeated season. Jackson bested all 3A schools at the ten school meet, earning 42 team sweepstakes points. “We were slightly less confident prior to the Evanston meet since we traveled with less than half the squad. It was, however, soon apparent that those who did travel were immediately ready to step up to the plate,” said Coach Londe Gagnon. Team Captain, Tristan Wagner, placed first in Impromptu, an event where the competitor has to craft a speech on a name, phrase or object with virtually no preparation time. Wagner and partner, Forest Tran, continued their successful PF Debate season with a first place finish. Wagner rounded out the meet with a second place award in Extemporaneous Speaking. Following closely behind Wagner, members of the Jackson squad achieved impressive finishes in Extemporaneous Speaking with Tran placing seventh, Ben Scher eighth, Daniel Pepper ninth and Rebecca Vinson eleventh. Team Captain, Bella Wood’s efforts in Original Oratory were rewarded with a second place finish. Andrea Martinez’s oratory was ranked fourth. Wood continued her triumphant weekend with a fourth place finish in Humorous Interpretation. Aaron Trauner placed third in Congressional Debate. Trauner competes with legislation calling for time and spending limits on candidate campaigning. “The team really showed its true colors over this past weekend, bonding as a group. Our two team captains set the tone with not only their remarkable finishes, but their extraordinary leadership and compassion as well. The team showed incredible support to one another and as a coach I could not be more pleased with them,” said Coach Gagnon. The team travels to Natrona County Casper this upcoming weekend. The team is planning its own invitational tournament on Friday and Saturday, February 5 and 6, 2016. *Feature Photo: h/t JHHS Speech and Debate Team / Pitchengine Communities* #buckrail #news
