Wed. Night Crash: Driver not at fault, pedestrian ID'd

(Jackson, Wyo.) - Last night at 8:08 p.m., officers from the Jackson Police Department were dispatched to report of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on South Highway 89 in the area of the Whole Grocer. Upon arrival it was determined that the pedestrian, Javier Hernandez Maldonado, 46, of Jackson was seriously injured and he was immediately transported the St. John’s Medical Center for treatment. He was subsequently transferred to the University Hospital at the University of Utah. The investigation revealed that Maldonado was attempting to cross Highway 89 from west to east in an area that was dark and has no street lights or crosswalks when he was struck by a southbound motorist. At the conclusion of the investigation no fault was found on the part of the motorist. It was determined that the cause of the accident was Maldonado failing to yield to traffic as required. Alcohol was determined to be a contributing factor. The Teton County Sheriff’s Office and the Wyoming Highway Patrol assisted with the investigation.
