5 Facts that Prove Skijoring is the Most Jackson Hole Sport Ever

(Teton Village, Wyo.) - This weekend, the historic and absolutely amazing team competition of skijoring is coming to Jackson Hole. The competition includes a horse and rider pulling a skier through a course that combines jumps, gates and spear rings. Judges score the teams on accuracy and speed. Here are 5 facts that prove the sport of skijoring belongs in Jackson Hole: *1. Roots in Jackson Hole* Although the roots of Skijoring began in Scandinavian countries and the sport made it to the U.S. in the 1950's, the North American Ski Joring Association (NASJA) was developed in Jackson Hole on April 24, 1999, according to the NASJA website . Long Time Resident Pete Karns Competed and was on the Board* According to a history by Skijoring America , "As a result of a now very robust circuit of races, 1999 also represents a time when two very formidable regional traveling teams were formed. The Jackson Hole traveling team consisted of rider Lane Hutchings and skiers Aaron Cisco and Pete Karns." Additionally, Karns joined the NASJA board in 2001.
