Classic dog skijoring revived with inaugural event in Alpine

(Alpine, Wyo.) - Tomorrow is the Coney Classic Alpine Skijor and Dog Party from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Alpine Cross Country Ski Association groomed trails at the end of Airport Road in Alpine. According to the organization, participants may have 0-3 dogs. Entrants may use skate, classic, tele, alpine skis, or snowshoes for the event. Dogs may pull the skier, or not (most don’t!). A few harnesses are available for a small donation. Those who participate can choose between three courses, 5K, 3K and 1K. Prizes will be awarded for best costumes and oldest teams. "This is a fun event where participants can enter cross country ski races with their dogs! This event has a long history in Jackson and we are excited to revive it in Alpine," states the event organizers. Registration begins at 11:00 a.m., first race starts at noon. No pre-registration. The entry fee is $15 and includes 1 raffle ticket. Raffle tickets on sale for $5 or 5 for $20. All proceeds go to local nonprofits.Spectators are welcome to come and join the fun for Free. Refreshments will be available, water and soda thanks to Broulims. Beer from Melvin Brewing and Osprey Beverages plus hot pizza from Tootsies.
