Man dies from heart attack while hiking near Targhee

(Jackson, Wyo.) - On Wednesday, Buckrail reported that a rescue was underway for a 55-year-old man who appeared to have suffered a heart attack near Grand Targhee Resort. The man, identified by Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue as Mark Allen Wanthal, 55, from Andover, Massachusetts, died from cardiac arrest. At approximately 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17, the Teton County Sheriff's Office Communications Center was advised there was a person near Mary's Nipple outside of Grand Targhee Ski Area screaming for someone to call 911. Teton County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue launched a helicopter with medical rescue personnel and dispatched uniformed patrol deputies. Grand Targhee ski patrol also sent a team to assist, who found the victim and assessed him as a possible cardiac arrest. According to the coroner, Wanthal suffered the cardiac arrest while hiking out of bounds at Grand Targhee. He has a son that lives in Teton Valley, Idaho. #buckrail #news
