Avalanche victim identified as 30-year-old Jackson man

(Alta, Wyo.) - Authorities have identified the man killed in the avalanche near Grand Targhee Resort yesterday as 30-year-old Jackson resident Ernesto Rodriguez-Becerra. According to a release issued by the Teton County Sheriff's Office this afternoon, Rodriguez-Becerra walked on to the cornice overlooking the back side of Grand Targhee Resort in a small saddle between the observation deck and “Nit Wits.” Part of the cornice broke free and Rodriguez-Becerra fell into the rocky cliffs below. The falling snow covered him after he came to rest at the bottom of the cliffs. Rodriguez-Becerra was located under the snow by an avalanche dog and dug out by Grand Targhee Resort Ski Patrol. An AED was deployed and CPR was started but life saving efforts were not successful. *Feature Photo: Opening Day at Grand Targhee Resort. h/t Erica Dunteman /
