(Alta, Wyo.) - Authorities have identified the man killed in the avalanche near Grand Targhee Resort yesterday
as 30-year-old Jackson resident Ernesto Rodriguez-Becerra.
According to a release issued by the Teton County Sheriff's Office this
afternoon, Rodriguez-Becerra walked on to the cornice overlooking the back
side of Grand Targhee Resort in a small saddle between the observation deck
and “Nit Wits.” Part of the cornice broke free and Rodriguez-Becerra fell
into the rocky cliffs below. The falling snow covered him after he came to
rest at the bottom of the cliffs. Rodriguez-Becerra was located under the
snow by an avalanche dog and dug out by Grand Targhee Resort Ski Patrol.
An AED was deployed and CPR was started but life saving efforts were not
