JHHS Speech team wins Outlaw Classic

(Rawlins, Wyo.) - The Jackson Hole High School (JHHS) Speech and Debate team won the Outlaw Classic tournament, held at Rawlins High School last weekend. Jackson topped the 3A division with 43 sweepstakes points, followed by Worland and Torrington with 25 and 21 points. This marks Jackson’s sixth win of the season. The sophomore Public Forum Debate team of Aaron Trauner and Daniel Pepper led the Jackson squad with their first place finish in the event. Trauner and Pepper went undefeated through the tournament arguing both sides of whether or not the US should withdraw their military presence in Okinawa. The senior PF team of Tristan Wagner and Forest Tran followed closely behind, earning third place. Trauner continued his successful tournament by tying for first place in Congressional Debate. Extemporaneous Speaking, an event in which Jackson has shown particular strength this year, proved again to be fruitful this weekend. Wagner led the category with a first place award, with Ben Scher earning fourth and Pepper and Ellie Dunn reaching semi finals in the event. Andrea Martinez continued her triumphant season with a fourth place finish in Original Oratory while Bella Wood made it to semi finals in the same event. Wood went on to place second in Humorous Interpretation with her cutting of Controlling Interest by Wayne Rawley. Kyler Arriola reached semi finals in the event with his rendition of Clue the Musical by Peter de Pietro. *Feature Photo: h/t JHHS Speech and Debate / Pitchengine Communities* #buckrail #news
