Pee-Wee and Squirt Hockey Teams win regional tournament

(Jackson, Wyo.) - This weekend, Jackson Hole Youth Hockey teams traveled to Salt Lake City for the annual Spring Fling Hockey Tournament, and the local Pee Wee A and Squirt Hockey teams came out on top. Seven regional teams from Utah, Idaho and Wyoming were in the Squirt bracket; teams that see each other often during inter-mountain west hockey season. Jackson started the tournament strong with a 5-2 win over the Boise Steelheads and a 5-3 win against the Ogden Mustangs. The Squirts' 3rd game ended in a loss against the Salt Lake City Lightning 1-2 but they came back on the ice for the next game with a renewed sense of purpose, defeating the Park City Ice Miners 2-1. This win sent the team to the final championship game against the Salt Lake Outliers. According to David Ellingson, the interim executive director for Jackson Youth Hockey, this was a tough game against a great team. The Jackson Moose Squirts won 5-4, scoring the final goal with less than a minute left in the 3rd period. "The team played well together, eight different players scored goals during the weekend. It was a great way to showcase their on-going efforts and hard work. They couldn’t have asked for a better end to the season," said Ellingson.
