New local exhibition focuses on the lesser known beauty of the west

(Jackson, Wyo.) - On Friday, April 8 from 5:30-7 p.m., Center for the Arts will host an opening reception for Colorado-based photographer Paul Sisson’s exhibition Not So Far from Here in The Center Theater Gallery. Not So Far From Here is a unique photographic portrait of the Western American landscape. The images seek beauty in non-traditional places, show a crumbling rural culture, and find humor in simple and subtle ways. "Sisson’s project emphasizes the journey, rather than the destination, and explores the things that can be found by slowing down and taking in the world that lies beyond the tunnel vision that so often dominates our daily lives," states a Center for the Arts release. Over the last several years, Sisson has been collecting these scenes during open-ended, unplanned road trips throughout Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, New Mexico, Montana, South Dakota, Utah, and Kansas. With an emphasis and enjoyment for the process, Not So Far From Here is a thoughtful look at life on the open road. The community is invited to meet Paul Sisson and hear about the creation of Not So Far From Here during a casual lunchtime talk on Thursday, April 7 at 12 p.m. in The Center Theater Gallery, which is located on the west side of The Center Theater Lobby. Sisson’s exhibition will be on display until May 16, 2016. *Feature Photo: h/t Center for the Arts / Pitchengine Communities* #buckrail #news #whatshappening
