Jackson PD: Bike thefts are already happening this spring

(Jackson, Wyo.) - The Jackson Police Department recently stated that between 100-150 bikes were reported stolen in 2015, and several bikes have already been stolen in 2016. "Bicycle weather is upon us…or nearly there anyway. With the prospect of riding down the street with the wind in your hair (if you've got it) and the sun on your face we can only imagine you're all pulling your bikes out of storage and tuning them up for the season," stated the Jackson PD in a public service announcement (PSA). "With that in mind, the Jackson Police Department would like to ask for your help. Please secure your bicycles. Every year, we take over 100 lost, stolen and found bicycle reports. Buy a good bicycle lock to secure your investment, whether it's that $50 bike or that high speed $5,000 bike. It won't prevent all theft, but most crimes in Jackson are crimes of opportunity. Don't give a thief an opportunity," said the PSA. Authorities also encourage people to write their serial number down and take a photo. It will go a long way in helping the police identify a bike should it ever get stolen. *Feature Photo: h/t Pixabay / Pitchengine Communities* #buckrail #news
