Man allegedly tries to steal drugs from residence, then sets fire

(Jackson, Wyo.) - At about 8:50 p.m. on Friday night, Jackson Police officers responded to a report of a person trying to start a residence on fire. According to the Jackson Police Department, when officers arrived at the scene, the suspect was gone and the fire had not caused damage. Officers learned that the suspect, who is known to the victim, entered the residence through a window without permission while the victim was asleep. "When the victim woke up, the suspect began asking for prescription medication that the victim had. The victim refused to give the suspect the medication and the suspect began to look for the prescriptions throughout the residence," said Lt. Cole Nethercott of the Jackson Police Department. The victim was eventually able to get the suspect out of her residence. The Jackson PD says that immediately thereafter, the victim smelled something burning and found that prior to leaving, the suspect had placed papers on the electric stove top and turned it on, causing them to catch fire. Officers also learned that the suspect had previously been given a criminal trespass notice to not be at the residence approximately a week prior. It was determined that no medications had been stolen, but the suspect had stolen the victim’s cell phone charger. Prior to concluding the investigation the suspect returned to the scene and officers arrested Jacob Keith Gattrell, 22, of Jackson for burglary, fourth degree arson, and criminal trespass. #buckrail #news
