Region to have 20 electric vehicle charging stations by end of 2016

(Jackson, Wyo.) - By the end of this year, our area will have more than 20 electric vehicle charging stations. This effort was funded with grants by the Department of Energy Clean Cities National Parks Initiative, Environmental Protection Agency, and Teton Conservation District, and facilitated by Yellowstone-Teton Clean Cities. In the spring of 2014, the Town of Jackson led the region by installing four stations throughout downtown Jackson. This summer, the town will double that number with the installation of two, dual port stations in the newly paved parking lot on Deloney Avenue. “It has been a main goal of Yellowstone-Teton Clean Cities for the past several years to develop a regional infrastructure for electric charging” says Executive Director, Alicia Cox. “We are very excited that the presence of the stations will make it possible for most electric vehicles to travel through the region without range anxiety.” "With zero tailpipe emissions and our region’s relatively clean grid mix, the use of electric vehicles by both tourists and residents will greatly reduce our impact on the environment. For every one conventional vehicle that is replaced with an electric vehicle, there is a 52 percent reduction in life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions, and potentially even more in our region," said Yellowstone-Teton Clean Cities. Collaborative efforts between Yellowstone-Teton Clean Cities, Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, Town of Jackson, and Energy Conservation Works have been key to creating a region where electric vehicle travel is a reality. The map below shows the anticipated travel range once all stations are installed. Through these grant funds, both parks will purchase plug-in electric vehicles, and showcasing the use of the zero-tailpipe emission vehicles in their park operations as well as encouraging visitors to travel through the park in EVs. *Feature Photo: Electric Charging Station in Jackson. h/t Yellowstone-Teton Clean Cities / Pitchengine Communities* #buckrail #news
