Bailey Schupp of Pinedale to represent WY at the 2016 National Junior Duck Stamp Contest

(Jackson, Wyo.) - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently announced the winners of the 2016 Wyoming Junior Duck Stamp Program. Exactly 500 art entries were received from around the state, from kids in kindergarten up to 12th grade. Students also included a “conservation message” with their art, which summarizes what they learned through the program. Jesse Erickson, age 16, of Powell, submitted this year’s winning conservation message: “Conserving wetlands and wildlife habitats is crucial not only for the wildlife, but also for future generations of people.” Wyoming’s 2016 Best of Show artwork, pictured below, is an oil painting of a harlequin drake, titled “Symphony of Blues” by Bailey Schupp, age 15, of Pinedale. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge in Sanibel, Florida. Wyoming’s Junior Duck Stamp Program also awards a “Betty Nelson Artistic Promise Award” to the younger age group, K – 3rd grades, to an artist the judges feel exhibits exemplary artistic promise. This year’s Betty Nelson Artistic Promise Award went to Tori Linger, age 7, of Wilson, WY for a watercolor pencil and oil pastel depiction of a mallard drake titled “nice sunny day,” which is pictured below. The Junior Duck Stamp is available for $5 from the U.S. Postal Service, Amplex Corporation, and from many National Wildlife Refuges, as well as at www.duckstamp.com. Proceeds from the sale of the stamps support conservation education and provide awards and scholarships for students, teachers and schools participating in the Junior Duck Stamp Program. *Feature photo: “Symphony of Blues” by Bailey Schupp, age 15, of Pinedale, WY. h/t U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service / Pitchengine Communities* #buckrail #news
