Tai McBride, Kirby Castagno win Wrestling State, team finishes with many medals

(Jackson, Wyo.) - Jackson Hole kids stand out as some of the best athletes in the state and even the nation. This is no exception when it comes to the local wrestlers, who are now stacked with medals from the recent state competition. In mid-April, 13 athletes from the Jackson Bronc USA Wrestling Club competed at the Wyoming Amateur Wrestling Association State Championship. They traveled to the tournament in Casper accompanied by club president and coach Ryan Castagno, vice-president and coach Jim McCollum, and coaches Ben Arlotta and Tyler Davis. Big wins include Tai McBride, who competed in both the girls and the boys tournaments. She went 1-2 against the boys and did not place, but was named the 2016 Girls State Champion. On Saturday, McBride again won the girls division making her a State Champion for both Freestyle and Folkstyle. Kirby Castagno was named the 2016 State Champion in Folkstyle and Greco-Roman. The club's season officially begins in January, but many dedicated kids practice all year long. *Here are the full local results from the Wyoming Amateur Wrestling Association State Championship:* West Schroeder and Taz McBride wrestled in the Freestyle Bantam division against more than 30 other wrestlers from across Wyoming. The team had six kids in the Novice division: - Thomas May: 6th place - Justin Castagno: 3rd place - Tucker Wilson: 4th place - Zane Schroeder: 3rd place - Jace Warsinske: Went 2-2 just missing the medal round - Wyatt Romero-Erlanson: Competed in his first state tournament Tipton Wilson wrestled in the schoolboy division. In the Cadet division, last years Triple Crown winner from Jackson, Rylee McCollum placed 3rd and Kirby Castagno placed 3rd. Roy Barnard also wrestled in the Cadet division. On Saturday, the Folkstyle championships took place with several great finishes from Jackson wrestlers: - Thomas May: 6th place - Justin Castagno: 3rd place - Rylee McCollum: 2nd place - Roy Barnard: 5th place - Kirby Castagno is the 2016 State Champion On Sunday for the Greco-Roman Championships, Taz McBride placed 4th in the Bantam division.
