Unit catches fire on Elk Run Lane Friday night

(Jackson, Wyo.) - On Friday night around 6 p.m., Teton County Dispatch received a call about a fire in a unit on Elk Run Drive behind the new Post Office in Jackson. According to Kathy Clay, Battalion Chief and Fire Marshal for Jackson Hole Fire/EMS, there was no one in the unit at the time of the fire. The surrounding units were evacuated, including about 20 people. Clay said that there were about 30 firefighters that responded to the call, which is a great turnout of responders. "Heavy black smoke, banked to the floor, was encountered upon entry by fire crews," said Clay. "The fire was on the first floor, in the area of couches. Fire was suppressed quickly." "The unit suffered significant fire and smoke damage, however, this was contained to the single affected unit," Clay added. Clay said she is working on the investigation of what caused the fire and the report should be out early next week. #buckrail #news
