While many think this is the day of Mexican independence, "The significance of Cinco de Mayo is that it represents Mexican resistance to foreign intervention, it is a moment where Mexico as a young nation rallied to defend itself," according to an article by NBC
Regardless of the reason for the holiday, there are several events
happening around town to celebrate Cinco de Mayo:
*Picas Celebrates Friends of Pathways:* Today, celebrate Cinco de Mayo at
Pica's Mexican Taqueria with Friends of Pathways. 20% of the proceeds will
go towards projects like the Skyline Ridge Trail and the Youth Trail Crew.
*Cinco De Mayo At Hatch:* Hatch is offering a $10 lunch special, $5 Margs
and other Happy Hour specials from 4:30-6 p.m., 2 for $20 menu for dinner,
$4 tequila shots and $3 Pacifico and Dos Equis all day, and live
entertainment from 5-8 p.m.
*Cinco de Mayo Fiesta:* Tonight at 6 p.m. at the St. John's Episcopal
Church, Hansen Hall, the Latino Resource Center is hosting a Cinco de Mayo
Fiesta. The event is free and includes food, music and games.
*Cinco De Mayo at the Elks Lodge:* Stop into the Lodge today after work for
$3 taco bar, $4 margaritas, $5 tequila shots.
