It's Spring Cleanup Week! How to dispose of your yard waste for free

(Jackson, Wyo.) - The snow has melted, the temperatures are rising and it is time for some spring cleaning. May 9 - 14 is officially designated as Spring Cleanup Week and Teton County Integrated Solid Waste & Recycling (ISWR) if offering some free options to help clean up your yard. *Compostable Yard Waste Bags and Town of Jackson Curbside Pickup* ISWR, the Town of Jackson and Terra Firma Organics are again teaming up to subsidize the cost of offering complimentary yard waste collection and composting events. The goal of this program is to encourage residents to compost yard waste, rather than throwing it into the trash. All yard waste collected is composted locally rather than hauled to the Bonneville County landfill 100 miles away. Pick up free compostable yard waste bags at the following locations: - Jackson Town Hall: 150 Pearl Avenue, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.; - Recycling Center: 3270 S. Adams Canyon Drive, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.; and, - Eco-Fair: Saturday, May 14, Snow King Ball Field, RRR Booth, 12 - 4 p.m. The compostable yard waste bags can be filled with leaves, grass and twigs only – No trash or dog waste! Trash is extremely difficult and time consuming to remove, and yard waste cannot be composted if trash is present. “Folks are doing a great job keeping it clean,” said Mac Dukart, ISWR Waste Diversion and Outreach Coordinator. “During the fall yard waste collection, we had to remove only a small amount of trash from the yard waste collected and are hoping for this trend to continue. We dump out each of the approximately 4,000 yard waste bags collected to inspect for trash – so everyone’s help is much appreciated. We hope this service will help raise awareness about the importance of ongoing community-wide yard waste collection in the valley.” *For Town of Jackson Residents* Place your yard waste bags (plastic bags will not be picked up) on the curb by 8 a.m. Monday, May 16 – this will be a one day only yard waste curbside collection event. Other easy to empty reusable containers, such as totes and trash cans, may also be used for yard waste. Place larger limbs next to compostable bags – do not tie. The Town of Jackson is able to significantly reduce the amount of fuel and staff time as a result of using the Rodeo Grounds as a staging area for this Spring Clean-Up effort. Please note that The Rodeo Grounds is not a public drop off. Only Town of Jackson Public Works crews will be using this area to drop off of residential yard waste. To qualify for free yard waste disposal, residents must bring it in loose or in yard waste bags. You will be directed to dump yard waste in the composting area – paper yard waste bags will be composted as well (or keep to re-use if you like). If residential yard waste is delivered in plastic bags, it will be disposed of as trash, and the customer will be charged the Spring Clean Up rate of $55 per ton. *Feature Photo: h/t ISWR / Pitchengine Communities* #buckrail #news
