Utah kidnapper suspect arrested; one still at large in Sublette County

(Pinedale, Wyo.) - At approximately 1:45 a.m. this morning, Flint Wayne Harrison, 51, turned himself in at the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office in connection on warrants issued from the Centerville Police Department. Immediately following his arrest, Harrison began working with local investigators to locate his son, Dereck James Harrison, 22, who is also wanted on felony charges of alleged kidnapping and assault. At this time, Dereck is believed to be in the forest near the Half Moon Lake area of Sublette County and citizens are being told to avoid the area until further notice. According to an article in the Salt Lake Tribune , the two men are charged with 10 counts of first-degree felony aggravated kidnapping. They allegedly kidnapped and beat five women, who were later able to escape. Read more about what happened here. The incident is still under investigation. The men, who evaded capture by police on the evening of the incident, apparently made their way to Sublette County and have been in the back country since as early as Thursday. It is unknown at this time what prompted Flint to turn himself in, but it is reported that Dereck is still at large and considered armed and dangerous. Though no threats have been made to anyone outside of law enforcement, citizens are asked to stay out of the area until the suspect is apprehended. If you have family camping in the area and are able to communicate with them, please ask them to leave the area as quickly and as safely as possible. Residents are being asked that if they are in the Pinedale area and do not have to leave their homes for any emergency purposes, to consider sheltering in place until the suspect is apprehended. Anyone who has seen Dereck is asked to contact law enforcement immediately.
