A fiesta grande for the Juan Hernandez Family

A fiesta grande for the Juan Hernandez Family

The labors of those who organized the benefit for crash victim Juan Manual Hernandez were labors of love that you could feel and taste. It was an event that held insight into how this family has integrated it’s self into the heart of the Jackson community, and how big that heart is. Mid-afternoon, the Elks Lodge began to transform as the special grills, coolers, and huge stockpots were carried in and the food prep began. Watching the Tacos el Pastor being constructed on the spit was a two-man job that was an engineering feat. Huge pots of Pozole, both green and red began to steam on the stove. Many hands and hearts transformed the lodge in a few hours and the fiesta was on. Spanish and English flowed across the long rows of tables, everyone telling the story of how they know Juan and his family. Why Juan and how could someone driving over Teton Pass not be paying attention? A distracted driver in a Dodge Durango reportedly crossed the centerline on a blind curve, on one of the steepest parts of the pass and hit Juan’s Honda head on. Juan faces a long recovery; he has been hospitalized for 3 weeks and endured many surgeries. Juan will be hospitalized for several more weeks or months, as more surgery is needed. #memmer #buckrail #news
