'Get hooked on fishing' with these free kids events in Jackson and Pinedale

(Jackson, Wyo.) - Kids up to 13 years old are invited to “get hooked on fishing” at the Kids Fishing Day in Jackson Hole and Pinedale on Saturday, June 4. *Jackson Kids Fishing Day* The event, hosted by Wyoming Game and Fish with several partners and volunteers, will feature free activities and take place, for the first time, at Rendezvous Park (R Park) near Wilson from 10:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. “We’re happy to be partnering with the folks at R Park for this year’s event,” said Wyoming Game and Fish Jackson Fish Biologist Tracy Stephens. “I think the park will be great with plenty of room for all the kids to spread out and easy access along the shoreline making it ideal for beginning anglers.” The pond is being stocked with hundreds of Snake River cutthroat trout and there will be an array of educational activities. Each child will receive a personalized certificate, goody bag, hat, and fishing pole. "I continue to volunteer for this event because I really believe in providing quality outdoor opportunities for our youth,” says Kids Fishing Day volunteer Joe Burke. “Plus, it’s pretty gratifying seeing all the kids having so much fun!” Located at the intersection of Highway 22 and the Teton-Village Road (4270 River Springs Drive, Wilson), registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. Enjoy a FREE barbeque lunch at noon provided by a grant from Jackson Hole One Fly and donations from local businesses. Activities will conclude at 3 p.m. Participants are urged to use alternative forms of transportation to attend, such as START Bus or the community pathway system. Parking for the event will be available at the Stilson Lot. *Pinedale Kids Fishing Day* The event will take place at the CCC Ponds three miles north of Pinedale. Parents are invited to come and share in the fun and maybe learn a thing or two themselves. There will be short educational activities, lunch and the opportunity to catch rainbow trout or brown trout freshly stocked in the pond. Some fishing gear and worms will be available if needed. The entire event is free of charge. All kids age 13 and under, are invited to participate in this event. Registration begins at 10 a.m. at the CCC Ponds parking area. To get there, take the road to Lakeside Lodge at Fremont Lake and follow the signs for CCC Ponds. The local Trout Unlimited chapter will provide a free hotdog and hamburger lunch. The event is planned to conclude at 3 p.m. Topics for the educational activities typically include fish identification, fly and spin casting, fish anatomy, aquatic bugs and more. “The fish anatomy and fly casting are big hits with the kids,” says Pinedale Fish Supervisor and event coordinator Hilda Sexauer.
