Moose-Wilson in GTNP closed Monday - Wednesday this week

(Moose, Wyo.) - A brief travel closure will be in place on a segment of the Moose-Wilson Road in Grand Teton National Park for about 72 hours beginning at 6:00 a.m. Monday, June 13. The temporary closure will be in effect for the segment of road between Sawmill Ponds Overlook and the Death Canyon Road Junction. The road will reopen by 8:00 a.m. Thursday, June 16. The temporary closure will be in place to accommodate an asphalt overlay on a short section of road that traverses wetlands. The hydrology of the area has caused severe frost heaving in the last few years which creates a hazard to motorists and bicyclists using the roadway. The crucial repair will provide for improved visitor safety and experience. Motorists and bicyclists should plan to use an alternate route June 13-15 as this temporary closure will prevent making a through trip on the Moose-Wilson Road. Those wishing to access the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve, Death Canyon Trailhead, or Granite Canyon Trailhead can do so by travelling north from the Granite Canyon Entrance Station. Those wishing to access Sawmill Ponds Overlook can do so by travelling south from the Teton Park Road. Electronic signs will be placed on Wyoming Highway 390 to alert park visitors and local residents of the scheduled road closure. For travelers heading south to Teton Village from the Moose area, signs will also be placed near the junction of the Teton Park Road. Roadwork schedules may change, or be delayed, due to weather conditions, equipment malfunction, or other extenuating circumstances. #buckrail #news
