Airport 'Cowboys Up' with New Battle of Wills Sculpture

(Jackson, Wyo.) - The Jackson Hole Airport is proud to announce the installation of Battle of Wills. The bronze sculpture commissioned by the Airport Board, as a tribute to the Cowboy State and the citizens of Jackson Hole. Bart Walter, a renowned sculptor, created this monumental piece by channeling the legend of Steamboat, the famous bucking bronco and State logo. Battle of Wills stands within the newly designed entrance into the Jackson Hole Airport framed by the majestic Tetons in the background. This project, from conception to installation, has been completed over the past two years and incorporates safety upgrades to traffic flow and pedestrian walkways. The total cost of all the improvements was approximately $1.3 million dollars. “This magnificent art piece and new entrance configuration will be in place for decades for future generations to enjoy. The art circle was specifically designed to enhance safety and functionality. We have also improved the visibility with new signage and the addition of a pedestrian viewing area,” said John Eastman, President of the Jackson Hole Airport Board. For more than thirty years, Bart has been sculpting wildlife in North America and Africa, venturing out into the field to study and sculpt his subjects in their natural environment, with the animal right in front of him. Furthering a continuity begun by previous sculptors of animals, he has brought a biologist’s eye and his dynamic approach to surface to the work at hand, conveying the movement and spirit of the animal. “Battle of Wills” captures the dynamic moment as horse touches earth again, and the contest between man and beast hangs in the balance. An official ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at the Airport on September 14th in conjunction will the Falls Arts Festival. Governor Matt Mead will be participating in this event and the Jackson Hole Airport invites the community to join in the festivities. *Feature Photo: Battle of Wills at the Jackson Hole Airport / Pitchengine Communities* #buckrail #news
