It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Natrona County’s 2nd Annual Superhero 5K and Kids Fun Run on Sept. 24.
It’s time to pull out your cape, tights and running shoes to help children in our community who have experienced abuse or neglect. In addition to the costume 5K and Fun Run, the family event will include face painting, music and even a visit from Casper’s Dream Upon a Princess superhero characters. All participants will receive a t-shirt with 5k runners receiving a medal and Fun Run participants receiving a CASA Superhero cape. Prizes will be given for the top two runners in each race. Pets are also welcome to participate with an additional registration fee.
Superhero participants will save the day for foster youths by helping fund the CASA Scholarship Program. The program helps support foster families and children by awarding scholarships to facilitate children participating in activities ranging from sports to after-school clubs. Without scholarships, many foster youths would miss out on these opportunities to play, learn and grow.
Those wishing to continue being a superhero for children that have been abused or neglected should ask about becoming a CASA volunteer. As of August of this year, CASA has advocated for 256 abused and neglected children in Natrona County and that number continues to rise. CASAs are everyday superheroes for children navigating the juvenile court system.
There’s still time to be the superhero these children deserve. Registration is ongoing online (link below) and at the YMCA, Lifetime Health and Fitness, Fitness One, Wyoming Athletic Club – East, The Warehouse Health & Fitness, YourBox Crossfit and CASA of Natrona County. Sign-up and join the fight!
