High Winds to return today in the Wind River Basin

It will be another very windy day across most of Wyoming Today especially Central and Southern Wyoming. The National Weather Service Forecast Office at Riverton Regional Airport reported at 6 a.m. today that "a very strong pressure gradient ahead of a cold front will combine with a cry strong jet stream aloft to produce very strong to high winds across a large part of Central and Southwest Wyoming Today, including Riverton and Shoshoni." The NWS said winds will be increasing this morning and continuing this afternoon before decreasing this evening. Winds are forecast from the Northwest at 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. "Travel and area highways including 20/26 and WYO 789 may be significantly hampered by these strong NW winds," according to a warning statement.
