Utility scam showing up again around the community

A common scam from someone claiming to be with a utility company and demanding payment is rearing its ugly head again in Fremont County. This time the target is High Plains Power customers. According to the local High Plains office, a man is calling people telling them if they don't pay their High Plains Power bill with a credit card within an hour, they will be disconnected. "High Plains Power does not contact people this way, it is a scam," Linda Johnson said. "Please don't give any credit card information if you are asked to call 307-529-1495 extension 775." This is not the first time scammers have called locals claiming to be a utility or phone company and demanding payment. Around this time last year, Rocky Mountain Power customers were called. Anyone with questions about the recent bout should call High Plains at 856-9426. #county10 #news
