Lander, Riverton Residents Honored by Make-A-Wish for their contributions

Two Fremont County women were recently named volunteers of the year for Make-A-Wish® Wyoming.Lori Griffin of Lander and Linda Treese of Riverton were presented awards for the many years and volunteer hours they have given to Wyoming’s Make-A-Wish chapter. “Until recently, Lori and Linda have been our two sole volunteers in Fremont County. They have logged numerous miles and hours for our organization to help ensure children from that part of the state have a fabulous wish experience,” said Tess Kersenbrock, community relations coordinator at Make-A-Wish in Casper. “We simply can not thank them enough for all they have done for us and the wish families in Fremont County.” Griffin has been an active volunteer for Make-A-Wish for about 10 years. “I wanted to personally support Make-A-Wish because there seemed to be so many kids in Fremont County who were eligible for a wish. These are essentially our neighbors and I want to help,” said Griffin. “What an honor to receive this award. It makes you feel good. It’s not why any of us do this, but it was so nice.” Treese became involved with Make-A-Wish about five years ago. “I work with medically frail children, so working with wish families comes very easy for me,” said Treese. “My family was also a wish family and I really feel it is my time to give back. The wish families deserve this award more than me. They are the ones going through difficult times…I just help.” The Volunteer of the Year award is given by Make-A-Wish to a person or persons who have gone above and beyond to help the organization realize its mission to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. It is a common misconception that the organization solely grants the wishes of children with terminal illnesses. To be eligible for a wish, a child must have a life-threatening illness that is defined as progressive, degenerative or malignant.
