On right now: Riverton's skating rink at Tonkin Stadium being filled with water

It won't be long now. Riverton Parks and Recreation began filling the ice skating rink this morning which is now located on the floor of Tonkin Stadium. Last year "R" Recreation purchased the rink, and a portion of it was set up at the Babe Ruth baseball park. This year, the flat surface of Tonkin Stadium allows the entire rink to be assembled. "The forecast temperatures at night are favorable and we still hope it will freeze solid enough to open late next week. We're optimistic, but depending on the weather, we're planning on Dec. 18th.," she said. "We need it to be really cold to get a good base established." Those hours will be announced when the rink officially opens for the season.
