Lander Council to consider limiting hunting in City Limits

In a proposed ordinance that is up for its first reading tonight, the Lander City Council would ban hunting within the city limits. Currently, bow hunting only is allowed within limits, but after a couple serious calls this year, the Lander Police Department is asking the council to restrict all hunting. Per the proposed ordinance, "No person shall hunt animals within the city limits of Lander" with a couple exceptions. Those are namely: authorization by the Chief and Animal Control Officer in a safe place and method or if the animal in question is injured or proven to a nuisance. According to a memo accompanying the ordinance in the City Council's packet, LPD gets multiple calls about hunting in town annually. This year an arrow was found lodged in the side of a house and another property owner discovered "blood of over their deck." Tonight's meeting starts at 7 p.m. The proposed ordinance will have to pass three readings before it can go into affect. Also on the agenda this evening are changes to the city's alcohol ordinance that essentially clarify wording in most locations. Other agenda items include pay requests and re-appointments to a couple city boards. #county10 #news
