Slash piles to be burned near Lander, Dubois on Shoshone National Forest.

With winter conditions in place, the Shoshone National Forest plans to burn hand constructed and machine built slash piles on the Wind River and Washakie Ranger districts over the next few days to several weeks. Burn areas in the Dubois area may include the Upper Wind River, Horse Creek, and Upper Little Warm Springs area. On the southern forest, burns are planned for South Pass, various locations along Loop Road, and Sinks Canyon. There are also two community piles that may be burnt, one in the Pass Creek Subdivision South of Lander and another near the Union Pass subdivision outside of Dubois. The piles are a result of timber sales, fuel reduction work, and community “fire wise” projects the districts have completed. Smoke generated from the burning may be visible throughout the Wind River Basin, Sinks Canyon and the South Pass area along Wyoming Highway 28. The overall duration of the projects will vary with weather conditions.
