Wempen Wish Week and silent auction is happening now

Shoshoni Student Council is hosting “Wempen Wish Week” running December 14th through December 19th, to benefit a beloved teacher, Mr. Andy Wempen. Mr. Wempen has taught elementary Art, Wood Shop, and Metal Fabrication in Shoshoni for three years. He is a graduate of both Riverton High School and the University of Wyoming. Mr. Wempen has recently been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer, and will be undergoing surgery very soon. The Shoshoni student body is raising money to help fund his medical expenses. The students are raising money in creative ways, such as selling green “Wempen Wish Week” wrist bands, a Ping Pong basketball toss, $1 hat day, paper air plane toss contest, paying money to trash Mr. Slack’s room with Duke paraphernalia, and purchasing a ticket to skip class to watch either a movie or basketball game. Thermopolis Schools will also be having a similar week. They have generously decided to dedicate their Make a Wish week funds to also help Mr. Wempen! Isn’t Wyoming great!!! The biggest fundraiser however, will be during the Sho-Opolis Shootout on Dec. 18th and 19th. There will be a silent auction hosted by Shoshoni High School. The auction starts at 1:30pm on Friday, December 18th, and will end at 8:00pm sharp on Saturday, December 19th. There will also be “max bid forms” available to fill out for bidders who cannot be present at the end of the auction. Each Shoshoni class, preschool through twelfth grade, has provided a gift basket to be auctioned off. Many students made donations for these baskets, and many local businesses as well. Some of the basket themes included are a Outdoor basket with a Large Yeti Cooler, Movie Basket with a 43” LG LED TV and movies, Hot Drink Basket with a Keurig machine, University of Wyoming Basket, Movie Basket with a handmade quilt, Family Fun basket, Disney basket, “Frozen” Basket, Star Wars Basket, BBQ basket, and many other fun themes as well! If you or your business would like to make a monetary donation to Wempen Wish Week, please stop by Shoshoni School, the Sho-Opolis Shootout, or send donations to Shoshoni Student Council, 112 W. 3rd Street, Shoshoni, Wyoming 82649. If you would like to make a gift basket donation, get ahold of Amanda Nimmo at 307-876-2576 before December 17th. Please spread the word and open your hearts to one of our own! We would also like to thank the following local businesses for already making donations: Pepsi, Kusel's Furniture & Appliance, 307 Power & Control, 4 Seasons Sports Center, Bill's Quality Glass, Days Inn & Safari Club, Hellie’s Tepee Pool. #county10 #whatshappening
