Shop with A Cop held on Saturday; Donations were down this year

Law enforcement officers from across Fremont County banded together at the Riverton Police Department Saturday morning to have a family assigned to them in the Shop With A Cop Program. When all the assignments were handed out, the group headed to Walmart with kids in tow for their shopping experience. Each officer had a specific amount of money to spend on each child, and the kids got to choose what they wanted, with parental consent, of course. There were smiles all around, but not as many smiles as ususal. Due to the downturn in the economy, donations to the program were down two-thirds this year, according to Riverton Police Captain Eric Murphy, who coordinates the programs. "We did have enough for 13 families this year and 28 kids, which is down from 42 families and 125 kids last year," he said.
