Big snow failed to materialize; Bitter cold forecast for tonight, Sunday night

The big Christmas storm failed to materialize over the Wind River Basin, although some snow did fall. The National Weather Service Forecast Office at Riverton Regional Airport reported a trace of snow in both Riverton and Lander. The most snowfall in the holiday storm was measured in Cheyenne with 6.4 inches. Casper recorded 0.8 inches. The high temperature around the state on Christmas was 31 degrees at Cheyenne and the lowest temperature this morning was 17-below at Pinedale. The NWS said periods of light snow would end this morning and the forecast for the next two days is for fog in the valleys at night with bitter cold low temperatures ranging from 5 to 15 below zero in the Central Bains. Highs will be in the mid-teens.
