Mountain Snowpack low for First Week of January

The snowpack in the Wind River Range is below the median for the first week in January, according to the Natural Resources Conservation Service in Casper. The latest snow water equivalent report pegged the Winds at 71 percent of the median, compared wth 102 percent one year ago and 109 percent two years ago this week. Statewide, the snowpack was at 81 percent of the median compared with 103 percent on year ago. "Our SWE numbers are not good for this time of the year," reported Lee Hackleman, a water supply specialist for the NRCS."However we still have plenty of time to make this deficit up, but this next week does not look too good."
