Be safe and #headsup on the ice! 5 tips for ice fishing on a frozen lake or reservoir.

(Wyoming) - In light of a few recent accidents reported on waters around Wyoming, Wyoming Game and Fish and Pitchengine Communities have compiled 5 important safety tips to keep in mind when heading out over frozen waters. *1. Check ice thickness before venturing out.* For white ice, double the recommended thickness. [image: Screen Shot 2016-01-12 at 10.14.19 AM.png] 2. Wyoming Game and Fish *discourages driving any motorized vehicle on a frozen lake* as well as ice fishing on rivers and or other moving water that has frozen over. *[image: Screen Shot 2016-01-12 at 1.25.49 PM.png]* *3. Avoid fishing alone. Always fish with someone else. * [image: Screen Shot 2016-01-12 at 1.23.19 PM.png] *4. Fluctuating water levels* in reservoirs and *wind impact ice conditions* and can create dangerous ice conditions. Be aware of recent weather conditions and temperatures and scout out the lake you wish to fish for overflow, wet areas, and open water. [image: Screen Shot 2016-01-12 at 2.00.33 PM.png] *5. Be prepared.* Remember to wear a lifejacket or personal flotation device and carry an ice pick. To prevent hypothermia if an ice fishing accident does occur, pack an extra set of clothes and hot liquids.
