BREAKING: Deputy County Fire Chief succumbs to burns suffered in September

The Assistant Chief of the Fremont County Fire Protection District, Speed Hartbank of Pavillion, has died of burns suffered in a mishap at a fire scene on September 10th off of the Eight Mile Road. It was reported that Speed died at 2:33 p.m. Word of Hartbank's death began spreading Wednesday afternoon. He had been hospitalized at the Burn Unit at the Swedish Medical Center in Denver. He suffered second-degree burns over 38 percent of his body. Fremont County Fire Protection Chief Craig Haslam said he would issue a written statement about Hartbank's death later this afternoon.
