Riverton pedestrian struck by car, seriously injured Monday night

A woman walking along the 1700 block of East Monroe Avenue at East 20th Street was struck and seriously injured by a motorist Monday evening around 6:10 p.m. According to reports from the Fremont County Sheriff's Office and the Riverton Police Department, the pedestrian was struck by a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by a 19-year-old male. The 38-year-old female victim was not identified, but she received emergency treatment at SageWest-Riverton and was then airlifted to a regional hospital with serious internal injuries. Undersheriff Ryan Lee said the incident remains under investigation. He did note, however, that the driver of the Chevy was not intoxicated. Riverton Police provided traffic control at the scene and East Monroe was closed while emergency crews attended to the victim and conducted a follow-up investigation. An account from the scene indicated the windshield of the vehicle that struck the woman had been smashed. #county10 #news
