NOLS founder immortalized in bronze

Today, just before the rain began, the National Outdoor Leadership School dedicated its newly finished bronze statue of its founder, Paul Petzoldt. It will permanently reside at the NOLS headquarters in Lander. A committee of former and current NOLS employees led a fundraising effort of more than $85,000 to have the bronze done by artist Ben Victor . Victor was unable to be present for the dedication, having broken his leg a couple months ago. The bronze was cast at Eagle Bronze in Lander. He added that the larger than life size of the bronze was fitting for Petzoldt's big personality. NOLS Executive Director spoke about Petzoldt's ever-lasting methodology of learning by experience and the power of the mountains that the statue embodies.
