Lander Boys swam the Mediterranean

(Mark & Judy Crawford / Pitchengine Communities)* (Lander, Wyo.) - The Lander Valley Tiger Boys Swim Team put in quite a few laps this year to prepare for the defense of its state championship. The boys did stretching exercises on Wednesday night at their last practice and then were feted at a banquet hosted by the swim parents. The last practice included the final laps on their distance goal for the season. Every year, the team chooses a different route. Last year, when they won their 19th consecutive championship, they chose the distance between Bangor, Maine to the Azore Islands, which the surpassed by 300 miles. They reached enough mileage to make it to Funchai Island, just southwest of Gibraltar. This year, the boys decided to swim a distance equal to swimming the Mediterranean. In 12 weeks and two days, roughly 3,350 miles later, they made it all the way, down the Suez Canal and into the Red Sea, all without leaving the friendly confines of the Lander Community Pool. #county 10 #news
